Presentation

The Universidade Federal deViçosa (UFV), headquartered in the city of Viçosa, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, was founded in 1926 and named Superior School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Since its foundation, UFV has focused on agriculture and became a reference in this area in Brazil and abroad. According to the 2018 QS World University Rankings, the UFV is among the top 100 Agrarian Sciences and Forestry universities in the world. In this area of knowledge, the UFV is also among the top five Latin American universities, the top three in Brazil and is the best in the state of Minas Gerais.


The UFV graduate programs in agriculture were pioneers in the Brazilian universities. They started in the 1960s through collaboration with Purdue University, USA. Today, the UFV holds 20 stricto sensu graduate programs which were rated 5, 6 or 7 by CAPES, and account for 46.5% of the 43 programs it supervises. Out of these 20 programs of excellence, 19 develop research related to Agriculture and Environment and are included in the present proposal.


By means of the Capes Notice 41-2017 PrInt – Institutional Program of Internationalization, the UFV will work in the internationalization Project called Agricultura: inovação para segurança alimentar e sustentabilidade global (Agriculture: innovation for global food security and sustainability), with the participation of the following graduate programs: Cellular and Structural Biology, Applied Biochemistry, Botany, Nutrition Science, Food Science and Technology, Forestry Science, Applied Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Entomology, Applied Statistics and Biometrics, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Science, Genetics and Breeding, Veterinary Medicine, Applied Meteorology, Agricultural Microbiology, Soil and Plant Nutrition and Animal Science.
